creasing competition between school divisions for teaching talent. “Before, we could sit back and wait for the applications to come in,” Campbell said. “Now we have to actively seek out applicants.”

The first step in the search ‘for teachers is to contact as many college placement offices as possible, Campbell said. “This year, we contacted 120.” The school divisions in the area also cooperate by sharing applications. If a division does not have an opening in a particular fi >ld, but does have an applicant, thon tne application is sent to a division that does have a position available.

Campbell said that the division does advertise positions in newspapers, but only rarely. Once applications are received, the interviewing process begins. “During the interview, we try to look into the person’s interests to determine whether he or she will fit in here,” Campbell said. “If they like the outdoors and wildlife, and they identify with traditional family values, then Rappahannock is a paradise.
