Dr. William Lynn proudly led the group flanked by the flag and standard bearers. The crowd recognized them three times with loud cheers. It was cut short, too, but another year and they will surely step briskly to the drum.
Betty Lentz again came out in a gorgeous, new Arab costume to serve as grand marshal of the tournament, which was also curtailed by the rains. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kohler arrived about 5:30 with their balloon but felt the horses and the coming storm would not allow them the minimum two hours to make it worth while to put the balloon up. The Colonial Revolution encampment of the Americans (Maryland Regiment) and a Scotch Brigade were able to perform in mock battle - which the Marylanders won - to add color and excitement to the day for people on both sides. I would like to congratulate all participants in all the events. They all lived up to expectations. The H. Gilkey family fireworks display experts put on the most spectacular show we have ever had in the past 23 years. These display items are highly dangerous and only the professionals should ever try to handle them. We should all feel good that they are willing to come each year and risk the dangers involved. But by very careful team work and orchestration of firing they are able to control most of the dangers. I am especially happy and I know the display is in the best of hands. Thank you Gilkey family for all of us.
