Yes, we changed the title (above), but not the meaning. It refers to the fact that our salvation, our preservation and our victory in the Christian life are all entirely the result of God’s working in us by His grace. In other words we get not what we deserve, but through our Lord Jesus we get the provision, the instruction, the protection, the fellowship, and the correction <,r chastening of a loving Father. None of this is the result of our works, not a case of “God helps those who help themselves”, but it is the result of His love demonstrated by His grace to those who are not able to help themselves. As we have stated before, this does not meap we have no responsibilities, but it does mean that our responsibilities do not include somehow deserving God’s blessing.
Yes, it is true that a person must be righteous in order to enter into eternal blessing with God. As a matter of fact, a person must be absolutely righteous in order to do that. And it must be accomplished in this life, since there is no biblical basis for the concept of purgatory or any other such place or time of a “second chance.” Sounds like a contradiction, doesn’t it?
