To the editor:
I have always felt that the celebration of Independence Day, commemorating the birthday of our nation, should be something special for children and young people. It should be a day when they can participate in many events of historic nature that graphically relates to the struggle between the colonies and Mother England, which placed intolerable taxes and embargoes on their people. The young people should know that they are enjoying the freest land in all the world, but that it was bought for a price.
Active participation in the July 4 celebration will help them review the history of our country. Historic sketches of many kinds, parades, marshal music, singing of patriotic songs, games of various kinds and fireworks displays are some of the things in which children and young people can participate.
