Plenty of celebrating over the Independence holiday took place this year, whether it was enjoying fJl the people and great food in Washington or having friends and family over for picnics and games, the sounds of laughter and joy were heard all around.
There was a good, old fashion, family reunion at the home of Richard “Doug” and Becky Gore this past weekend where 70 or so people gathered on their lawn for picnic feasting and “how have you been” conversations. It was their daughter Ellen’s birthday and it really turned out to be some affair!!
Their son, Ricky and his wife, Beverly and their daughter, Jan were all there to help with the out-of-town guests who came from as far away as Florida and Georgia. Doug’s sister Marie and her husband, Menefee Utz, who are from Castleton had a short distance to travel in comparison. Photos were being snapped of everyone in every direction and in every position reported Becky with a chuckle. This was one, if not the best one of the greatest reunions in their family’s history.
J.T. and Melzie Woodward spent a week of Independence celebrating in Vernon, New Jersey with their oldest daughter, Darlene and her husband, Clint Conover. Their youngest daughter, Donna and her husband, Randy Sheads and their family were also visiting the Conovers and a special friend, Heather Owen of Culpeper was happily included too. They spent a fun day in “Action Park” near Vernon, N.J., where they enjoyed ;he amusements. J.T. says that 15,000 people attend the park everyday a* ; it was so unbelievably crowded!' y drove down to Atlantic City, Nt w Jersey, walked on the broadwalk, watched the waves and sea gulls, had a fine dinner and went to several casinos to try their luck. J.T. couldn’t get over how populated the casinos were too. People everywhere. They had a great time playing the slot machines!!
The family drove around New York City so that J.T. and Melzie could get their fill of crowds and people and they sure did!!
When asked what did they epjoy most about the trip, J.T. says, “Eating out!” They loved all the unusual restaurants and food, especailly the French and Italian!!
