Honorary Fire Chief Contestants Needed The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department needs girls between the ages of 13 and 19 to run for Miss Honorary Fire Chief 1985. Girls living in the areas of Chester Gap, Huntly, Lake Front Royal, First Blue Ridge Mountain Estates and surrounding areas may run. If you wish to be a contestant please contact Karen Williams at 635-4673. The Chester Gap annual carnival will be held July 17-20.
Sperryville 4-H Club To Meet The Sperryville Community 4-H Club will meet on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. All area youngsters between the ages of 9 and 19 are invited to attend. Flint Hill Carnival Set The Flint Hill annual firemen’s carnival will be held July 31 through August 3. The parade will be held on Thursday evening.
Fund Raising Weekend On July 20 and 21, the Sperryville Antique Market plans to open its doors and facilities (free of charge) to all Rappahannock County nonprofit and community organizations for a weekend of “unrestricted” fund raising, exhibits and/or demonstrations. Amissville Ruritan Speaker The Amissville Ruritan Club will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 17 at the Amissville Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., the public is invited to hear and meet Colonel Leland J. Holland, former Iranian hostage.
Blue Ridge Draft Horse And Mule Show The fourth annual Blue Ridge Draft Horse and Mule Show will be held at Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Farm Museum on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events include halter classes and halter championship in the morning and performance classes in plowing, log skidding and obstacle driving in the afternoon. A grand and reserve champion working team and single working animal will be selected from the top point winners in the performance classes. At noon there will be a buggy, cart and wagon parade and later in the afternoon there will be a parade of antique farm machinery. A tour of the Farm Museum’s reconstructed 1800 living history farm is included in the show’s admission price. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12.
