Energy Awareness Week, Oct. 20-27, was established by the White House to stimulate public awareness and discussion centered around the need for sustained conservation and the development of energy resources and technologies.
Progress has been made in stabilizing the energy supply, reducing waste and working toward more efficient utilization of our limited resources and in developing alternative energy forms.
However, increasing energy costs will continue to place financial strain on households, communities, including Rappahannock County residents, and the country in the forseeable future.
Ample materials are available to assist county residents in efficient utilization of resources.
The Virginia Division of Energy has a number of publications available free to the public, among them is The Virginia Energy Book — Proven Ways to Save Money in and Around Your Home. The booklet was designed to “help take the guesswork and confusion out of selecting energy conservation improvements that give the best return on your investment. It will help you determine which energy conservation improvements are do-it-yourself projects and which are jobs for a skilled contractor.”
In addition, suggestions are given on how to purchase energy efficient heating equipment, how to drive a car to achieve maximum fuel efficiency and much more.
