For so long, the economic news on the home front has been so bleak.

So, to hear an optimistic report on the local textile industry challenging a competitor is, indeed, a sign of better times for an industry under the gun.

Aileen, Inc. is opening factory outlet stores to sell its products at prices to challenge foreign imports, imports that had stripped about one-third of the market from the domestic manufacturers. For decades American clothing held the upper hand in the marketplace.

That superiority is no longer true.

And that local manufacturers can come up with a marketing technique to successfully challenge the competition — which subsequently maintains job security — is good news for a change.
