Nice going Well, so maybe the weather was not perfect. It appears to be the only about last weekend that was less than ideal. In Sperryville, local business leaders made an idea come to pass. And it was more than successful. Perhaps Jesse Pond was correct when he said the ground sank “10 inches from the weight of all these people out here.” It was the first Sperryville Apple Harvest Celebration. Be advised that folks in the southern end of the county don’t expect it to be the last. Not by any stretch. The house tour and dried flower sale, as expected, went off without a hitch, as has been the case for the last 28 years. This year was no different. And the more than 60,000 folks who drove into the Shenandoah National Park will attest to the beauty of this place we call home. As predicted, the weekend wfll he talked about for months, and would be talked about for years, except for the planning and preparation that probably have already begun on the 1986 version. Sperryville organizer Martin Woodard called the weekend a “tremendous success.” It is hard to argue with that. It was a success socially, logistically and, certainly, financially.
Folks who visited our community over the weekend will more than likely return. After all, the pleasant taste of this weekend is still so fresh on our palates, even if the ground did sink about 10 inches. ’ '***•*_ Besides, maybe next year we can get two days of sunshine.
