trouble often result. In Front Royal, Randolph-Macon Academy and Warren County High School long ago decided it was imprudent to continue athletic competition between the two schools.
Despite their geographical proximity, Wakefield and RCHS are clearly not competitors in certain fields. In academics, they cannot fairly compete, for Wakefield, a private school, is selective, while Rappahannock, a public school, must be open to all. In sports, Wakefield has only about half the number of students to draw from as Rappahannock and a more limited range of non-academic activities.
We may, in fact, continue to compete in athletics, but there are, perhaps, some compelling reasons why we should not. If bitterness and hostility are the price of that competition, then it is clearly not worth the cost.
