Extend a hand to help a friend and another hand follows the example...and another...and another... and another.
A communal hand went out to Lanise Waites when friends learned that her seven-year-old daughter, Jessie, had leukemia.
The Jessie Waites Fund was opened at the Rappahannock National Bank, and a series of fundraisers was planned, beginning with a benefit dinner tomorrow night.
Volunteers stepped forward to bake lasagne and French bread, prepare salads and desserts, brew tea and coffee, serve the meal, add dinner music to the menu, sell tickets and design posters.
The Castleton Fire Department agreed to the loan of its building, even though the starter’s gun is set to go off early the next morning for the third annual Turkey Ridge Run, the firefighters’ major money-making event.
