If you haven’t done so, sit down right now and make a complete inventory of the stored feed, crop residues and late pasture you have available.
If you have not done so, send a test of your hays and silages to VPI and get them analyzed. Just bring them by the Extension office and they will be sent for you.
If you need to buy protein supplements, push the pencil to what protein will be the lowest cost. Prices will probably continue to come down some but at this point, no doubt, are nearing their low for the season.
Get supplements and other concentrate feedstuffs booked when the {Mice hits the fall bottom. Remember that barley will continue to be a good buy this year, but probably will not be as far below com price as usual. Barley is about 90 percent of the feeding value of com so figure it out on a pound of com equivalent basis when thinking about barley.
