Anticipating major surgery threatened by the supervisors, Rappahannock’s School Board cut away for 3'/2 hours Tuesday night, trimming approximately $64,200 from the educational expenditures for 1986-87 requested by Superintendent Robert Estabrook.
But, following through on last week’s resolution to pay teachers incentive bonuses to join and stay on the Rappahannock staff, the board members proposed an additional $12,600 in the category which includes instructional salaries.
Then they put in $10,000 for a new stoker for the high school’s coal-fueled heating system and an extra $1,600 for bus repairs.
At the end of the operation, the proposed bottom line dropped about $45,000, the equivalent of two cents on the tax rate. The board’s proposed budget is about $3,041,000.
