Mr. Clark, the well-known director and co-founder of the Wildlife Center of Virginia, has been active in environmental affairs in Virginia for nearly a decade. During his professional career, he has held executive positions in conservation organizations at both the state and national level. In addition to his fulltime position with the Wildlife Center, Mr. Clark serves as a management and strategic planning consultant for many conservation and environmental groups across the country.

According to Mr. Clark, “This appointment is proof that Governor Baliles is committed to even greater protection of Virginia’s environment while we seek to expand our state’s economy. Never before has a person been appointed to this council from the professional ranks of the conservation community.”

With the recent establishment of a new Cabinet post for the Secretary of Natural Resources, it is anticipated that the Council on the Environment will take on an everincreasing role in the establishment of Virginia’s environmental policy. “I am thrilled,” added Mr. Clark, “with the opportunity to participate in charting the course for the Commonwealth as we approach the 21st century. Supported by an outstanding staff, the council should become the champion of Virginia’s environment, and the source of creative new strategies which will protect our natural resources without creating unnecessary obstacles to economic growth.”

Mr. Clark is a native of Rappahannock County. He is a 1973 graduate of Bridgewater College where he received a BA in history and political science. He did graduate study at the University of Virginia and James Madison University. He presently is a member of the boards of directors of the Virgjp^i Wildlife Federation and the Virginia Council of Trout Unlimited, and is president of the Virginia Wilderness Committee. He lives with his wife Nancy Sheffield near Waynesboro, Virginia.
