promised they “shall and will make categorical cuts to the school budget, if the School Board, having previous and generous knowledge of this intent, fails to do so. ”
“By exercising this mandate the School Board will fulfill their (sic) responsibility by ensuring that these restraints are exercised in the best possible interest on the county, as seen fit by the most appropriate County Board,” the resolution concluded.
“To be realistic, we know the cuts are going to happen,” School Board Chairman Beverly Massie said.
“They’re going to tell us to do more,” Paul Nichols agreed.
In anticipation of further reductions to expenditures described as “bare bones” by the administration, the School Board agreed to retain the bonus concept in the $3 million budget they’ll forward to the supervisors. However, they held out the possibility of revising the pay scale once the supervisors act.
