Rappahannock County does not have a law prohibiting the carrying of a loaded rifle or shotgun in a motor vehicle on a public right-of-way, Commissioner Henry Thomas pointed out to Mr. Lane. “That’s your county ordinance that you haven’t passed," the commissioner said. “You all haven’t given us the teeth” to control guns in vehicles.
“It will be forthcoming," Supervisor Lane promised.
(On two previous occasions, before Mr. Lane was elected to represent Stonewall-Hawthome District, Rappahannock’s supervisors shot down such a local option ordinance by 3-2.)
“And you control dogs in your county as far as hunting goes,” continued Commissioner Thomas, referring to another piece of enabling legislation which allows counties to prohibit the hunting of deer with dogs.
“I would like to do something about that!" Mr. Lane replied.
The commission prohibits hunting deer with dogs west of the Blue Ridge.
