Co-workers last saw him alive the evening of Dec. 4 at his workplace on Route 28. Five days later, a local hunter found him in a patch of tall grass, dead from multiple gunshot wounds, lying in front of a vacant firedamaged house on Route 642, about five miles west of Ashbum.
Six weeks later, on Jan. 24, Loudoun Sheriffs Department investigators arrested James Russell Ring, 42, who shared his home with the victim’s ex-wife Linda, and David Neil Stebar, 25, an employee of Ring’s construction business and boyfriend to Ring’s daughter.
Both men, residents of 540 Holcombe St., New Castle, were charged with murder.
Ring’s son, James Jr., 18, who also lives with Ring Sr., was arrested a week later and charged with conspiring in the murder.
Father indicted in attack
A Fauquier Circuit Court grand jury indicted William Murphy, 23, of Bealeton, Monday for allegedly trying to kill his 3-year-old stepson.
The child received a “severe head injury” Nov. 8, but Murphy’s “explanation does not coincide with severity and type of injury,” according to the arrest warrant. The stepfather was the only person with the child when the boy sustained the injury, it stated.
Murphy’s trial is set for June 19. If convicted of felonious assault, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Attorney may be witness
Town attorney Carroll J. Martin Jr. may have to testify against Warrenton during an April 21 voting rights trial.
A hearing will be held Friday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria to determine if the American Civil Liberties Union can call Mr. Martin as a witness.
