Members of the Wakefield School’s senior class departed on Monday for a 10-day trip to the South of France and Monaco. This tour is the 11th annual foreign trip organized by Wakefield for students during the Easter holiday recess.
Accompaning the students are Gary Leake, instructor, Mrs. Pat Tucker, office manager, and Mrs. Lucy Russell, a Wakefield parent. In Paris the group will be met by Dr. Robert Burns, who will conduct the tour. Dr. Burns, the director of the European office of Educational Tours, Inc., has conducted three other Wakefield trips in past years.
The focus of this year’s studytour is the rich cultural heritage of France’s Mediterranean province of Provence.
The tour begins in Nice, the capital of the French Riviera. From Nice the group will explore the Comiche of the Cote d’Azure with visits to Eze, an ancient village perched high above the sea; La Turbie on the Aurelian Way; Roquebrune, site of the only extant Carolingian chateau in France, and Monaco, the tiny principality which is the home of the famous casino of Monte Carlo.
Before leaving the Mediterranean coast for the interior of Provence, the group will tour the Chagall Museum where they will see the world’s most extensive collection of Marc Chagall’s artistic masterpieces.
Heading inland, the group will stop in Avignon, site of the famous Papal palace, fortress, and bridge. In Pont-du-Gard they will see the world’s best preserved Rorrian aqueduct and in Nimes will visit the Roman arena and the Maison Caree,
