An $108.7M budget?
Loudoun County Administrator Philip A. Bolen presented a $108,678,539 budget to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors last Thursday. The proposed budget, along with the recent property reassessment, will mean an approximate 15 percent increase on real property taxes in the coming year.
The proposed budget, which is up by some $27 million from last year’s, increases county spending by 32 percent. Included are 11.5 percent average raises for school board employees and approximately 10 percent raises for county employees. In addition, the budget contains the school board’s adopted operating budget of $56.4 million and $13 million for school capital projects.
Reacting to the proposed budget, Supervisor Frank Raflo (D-Lessburg) asked Bolen to justify it.
“Basically,” Mr. Bolen replied, “the one word answer is growth.”
19 to testify at hearing
Nineteen witnesses have been subpoenaed by Loudoun Commonwealth’s Attorney William T. Burch to testify Friday on the murder of John Frank Cirios.
Three southwestern Virginia men, charged with the fatal shooting, will appear in Loudoun General District Court for their preliminary hearing, after which the judge will rule whether to send the case to a Loudoun Circuit Court grand jury.
