Vehicles are prohibited off paved roads for several reasons. The primary concern is the resource damage created by these vehicles and the potential safety hazard to the many hikers using these roads and trails on a daily basis. ATVs cause damage to the trail surface and increasing erosion from subsequent storms. They also crush fragile vegetation, and the noise is disturbing to Park wildlife. The trails are not designed for these vehicles. Many of the trails go into Congressionallyauthorized Wilderness, where all mechanized equipment is prohibited.

Slaughter visits

Congressman French Slaughter has scheduled a series of public meetings in order to meet with constituents in the Seventh Congressional District during part of the brief Congressional recess period slated from March 26-April 6. He has invited all interested citizens to meet with him to discuss Congressional developments during his swing through several cities and counties in the district.
On Friday, April 4, Slaughter will be in Rappahannock County at the Courthouse from about 4:30 to 5 p.m.

The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad is sponsoring their annual Miss Rappahannock Beauty Pageant contest on April 4 at 7 p.m. at Rappahannock County Elementary School. , ,, .
Rehearsals will be held Apnl 2 at 6 p.m. All contestants are asked to attend the rehearsal. Girls between the ages of three and high school seniors may participate.
