Shenandoah National Park Acting Superintendent Gerald Tays has announced that park rangers have stepped up enforcement efforts on the illegal use of private vehicles on Park lands, including all unpaved roads and trails within the Park.
Increasing illegal use of trails and administrative roads closed to public vehicular use by the all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) is of concern to the Park. Private vehicles, including motorcycles and bicycles, can be operated only on paved roads within the Park.

He indicated that a person utilizing these trails and unpaved roads with any vehicle will be cited, and if convicted, faces fines up to $500 and imprisonment up to six months or both.
