“You’ve got to do something with it,” said Robert Eastham. He acknowledged that Sperryville’s long delayed sewage treatment plant can’t get an operating permit from the state until the county comes up with a plan for how to dispose of sludge produced there.
“But if you wish, you can spread Sperryville sludge on land here, beginning tomorrow morning,” he said, pointing out that the county’s moratorium only bans land application of sludge produced outside the county. But if sludge even Sperryville sludge is spread, “I’m convinced that some of us are going to get sick and some of us are going to die,” he added.
