The camp is sponsored by two well-known local institutions: the Child Care and Learning Center and the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC). Other support comes from the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection and the Izaak Walton League.
“PEC has other camps of this kind in Albemarle, Orange and Fauquier,” Mr. Wood said. “So we’ve got that experience to draw’ on. And a lot of what w’e're doing is modeled after the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs’ Camp Vesuvius which must be 40 years old.”
