Newbill Miller, Rappahannock fanner and real estate agent, returned to the Board of Supervisors last Wednesday to fill the vacancy left by the death of Clarence Baldwin.
In a letter announcing his resignation — read at the April board meeting the day after he died, Mr. Baldwin suggested Mr. Miller as his successor.
After his unanimous election last Wednesday by supervisors J. R. atham, Hubert Gilkey and Charles Estes, Mr. Miller was immediately sworn in and seated at the board ta- ■ ble on the stage of the Gay Street Theater. “We’ll put you to work right away!” noted Mr. Latham.
Mr. Miller previously served as both a member and chairman of the Board of Supervisors. He was defeated by a one vote, 231 to 232, by Mr. Baldwin in 1971. Since then, Mr. Miller has been council member and mayor for the Town of Washington, a member of the county School Board and a member of the county Planning Commission.
