In addition, they were also considered for one of the 51 state awards presented to those women who have made the most noteworthy contributions in their individual states. From these 51 state winners, the Ten Outstanding Young Women of America were chosen, and these national winners were then honored at the annual awards luncheon held this past January in Washington, D. C.
Oatlands appeals
for used books
Oatlands Plantation has issued an appeal for donations of used books for its annual book sale to be held May 9 and 10 from 10 to 4 and May 11 from 1 to 4 in the Carriage House.
Used books, with the exception of text books and magazines, may be delivered to the Carriage House Monday - Saturday from 10 to 5 and on Sunday from 1 to 5. All donations are tax deductible.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the ongoing preservation and restoration of the antique furnishings in Oatlands House. A property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation built by George Carter in 1804, Oatlands House, garden and Carriage House gift shop are open to the public Monday - Saturday from 10 to 5 and Sunday from 1 to 5.
