The 22nd annual Manassas Jazz Festival will open Friday, Nov. 27, with additional concerts on Saturday, Nov. 28, and Sunday, Nov. 29.
Promoter Johnson “Fat Cat” McKee said that this year’s version of the oldest traditional Jazz Festival in the USA will be dedicated to the memory of famed jazz vocalist Maxine Sullivan, who, until her death earlier this year, was still singing with flawless rhythm and timing at age 75.
Among them will be such hornmen as “Wild Bill” Davison, Billy Butterfield, Tommy Saunders, and Connie Jones from New Orleans. Clarinetists Kenny Davern and Tommy Gwaltney, bapjoist Danny Barker, and bassist Keter Betts will also perform, as will drummer John Blowers and trombonist Bob Havens.
