Reports filed eight days before the election show Mr. Chase received $1,000 from Culpeper Air Park Associates, $1,000 from Sterling Home Corporation, $600 from Charles and Ella Shipe and $400 from Frank and Bonnie Maruca.
Sterling Home Corporation
Sterling Home Corporation, a Remingtonbased firm, plans a 167-unit mobile home park on the outskirts of the Town of Culpeper. The property is already zoned for a mobile home park but the county’s zoning ordinance requires public hearings for site plan approval by both the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission.
The site plan for Sterling Home Corporation’s Mountain Run Village was originally submitted last fall and rejected by the Board of Supervisors on the basis of inadequate road access. Rt. 699 is now being upgraded through a state revenue sharing program under which the state matches community contributions; in this instance, a plant on the same road manufacturing highly absorbent cat litter gave $50,000 for improvements to handle the increased traffic generated by increased demand for its product.
With the road improvements, which Mr. Chase noted he had opposed because the project did not appear on the county’s six-year road plan, Sterling Home Corporation has resubmitted its preliminary plat.
