Asthma, a serious respiratory disease, is usually controllable with the proper medication and self-management, said Kathleen Klumpp, registered respiratory therapist at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Klumpp chairs the pediatric lung disease committee of the American Lung Association of Virginia (ALAV). Ms. Klumpp offered the following tips to help asthmatic children and their families lead normal, healthy lives:
• Asthmatic children and their parents need a medical manager, a physician, who offers a “planned approach” to asthma treatment. This avoids constant “doctor-shopping”
