In other cases, the full impact may not hit the person until sometime after the incident. Or, they may not acknowledge the extent of their emotions until later, when they feel ready.
Besides grief, some of the common emotional responses to trauma or death include anxiety, fear, guilt and anger. Some common symptoms are nausea, diarrhea, chills or profuse sweating. Thinking may even be affected, with the person experiencing difficulty making decisions, concentrating or remembering.
I encourage people to seek out a friend who cares and can be trusted to talk with, or find a counselor whom they feel comfortable with talking about their feelings. There is one common thread: death and traumatic situations and a person’s responses to them affect that individual in more ways than they realize.
