Art history Him series
Middle Street Gallery of Washington is sponsoring an eight-part art history film series entitled “Shock of the New,” to be shown Monday nights at the Gay Street Theater in Washington, starting June 6 at 8. The films, narrated by Robert Hughes who is the art critic for Time ' magazine, will be followed by an informal hour discussion led by scholars and thinkers. The discussion after the first film, entitled “Mechani-’ cal Paradise,” will be led by Dr. Denise Horton, a member of Georgetown University’s adjunct faculty in the School of Psychiatry.;' Admission is free, but a $1 donation is requested for each film. “Shock i of the New” is made available by the Virginia Foundation for the Hu-'; inanities and Public Policy.
Spring concerts at county schools
This is a big week for music students at the county's schools. On ]' Thursday, May 26, the elementary school’s select chorus will present ■; the musical “Robin Hood.” The performance will be in the elementary' school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Next Tuesday, May 31, the high school , will present its spring concert at the RCES auditorium, following the school’s award banquet. Both shows are free and the public is invited. Band director David Orth and choral director Catherine Ashanky are!1 coordinating the performances.
