But with a device called a pollution pack sunk into the existing well and an inch-and-a-half of cement grout between the “boot” and the well casing, that well on Mr. Hur’s property will qualify as a Class II well under Health Department regulations, regional sanitation supervisor Charles Shepherd ruled last Friday. And since current standards require a separation distance of just 50 feet between a Class II well and a septic field, the existing well—with the pollution pack “boot" and the lVz inch grout—“would meet the minimum separation distance,” Mr. Shephard agreed.
