My husband and I have had several wonderful meals at The Inn at Little Washington and have always found the service impeccable. At our most recent visit with our two young children on Mother’s Day, however, our waiter performed what was for us an exceptional feat.
And it says a great deal about why the Inn is a great place, and about the people in Rappahannock.
My daughter had by her side on her chair during our meal her “blankie,” a 2 inch by 4 inch piece of fluff very much resembling what one might be able to pluck out of the average vacuum cleaner bag. It ended up on the floor and our waiter (Barry) spotted it, scooped it up and thinking understandably that it belonged in the trash, pitched it into the kitchen garbage can.
When my daughter noticed her “blankie” was missing, a frantic but futile search ensued and she dissolved into tears just as the main course arrived. Our waiter admitted to her what he had done and she cried and glared at him throughout her meal (which was so delicious
