“This legislation enhances our recognition of the delicate balance between the desire of Virginians to preserve Virginia’s natural beauty and the need for the region to promote economic growth,” said Sen. Warner. “The lands offer outstanding recreational opportunities and will remain open for hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. All of these lands are federally-owned as part of the National Forest System, so no private property will be condemned, and no costs will be incurred by the federal government.
“With the approval of this legislation, our collective efforts will have succeeded in bringing a total of 89,800 acres of Virginia national forest lands into the federal wilderness system. My support for continuing this process simply represents my last resolve to ensure a wilderness experience for the enjoyment of future generations of Virginians,” Sen. Warner said.
Sen. Warner also noted that he will consider future requests to add to Virginia’s wilderness system.
