Innesfree Village, a community for the mentally handicapped in Albemarle County, will be offering wood and woven crafts, pottery and tile work. Artists will present etchings and draw silhouette portraits. In all, more than 50 booths will be devoted to arts and crafts.
And interspersed will be others devoted to satisfying the appetite. Just as with the arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone: the food will range from the traditional hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and sodas to Middle Eastern fallafil, Thai shish kabobs, and South of the Border tacos and salsa. And for those who pack a picnic, there’s plenty of room for spreading a blanket next to an old stone wall at the edge of the surrounding apple orchards. It all has an atmosphere of a Renaissance fair.
But the real difference between the Old way Craft Village’s festival and the scores of craft shows held at other crossroads, villages, and town centers on the same Memorial Day weekend is the plentitude and diversity in craft demonstrations.
