Roadside Theater, from the central Appalachian coalfields of southwest Virginia and east Kentrucky, is one of the handful of rural theater companies in existence in the United States. Acclaimed as a “national treasure," the company has performed at Lincoln Center, at the Festival of American Folklife in Washington, D.C., and in Europe, and has had several successful runs off-Broad way in New York.
