Mr. Fisher wondered about the precedent of allowing a new cable overhead, and what effect that would have if later applications were denied.
Mr. Reynolds said that specific conditions could be added to the permit which would make it clear that this situation is different from possible future cases.
“I have,” Mr. Wickens added, “very significent problems with the service of the phone company; and 1 want to see the cables buried—but I think this is the wrong way to go about it.”
Mr. McBride also pointed out to the council that if Centel were forced to bury its cables, "the subscribers will pay the cost.”
In response to requests from Mr. Wickens and council member Nan Thomasson, Mr. McBride agreed that the council should have a work session with Centel about the company’s service and to discuss options to get the town’s utility lines buried.
After adopting a suggestion from Mr. Reynolds that the findings be made specific to this application, the council found that the installation did not endanger
