Lewis Fletcher didn’t show' up for his hearing before the Board of Zoning Appeals last Wednesday, and in the absence of any testimony on hardship, the board voted unanimously to deny his application for a variance to zoning regulations.
Mr. Fletcher had asked for a waiver of sideyard setback standards which specify that accessory structures more than 10 feet in height must be the same 50 feet away from side property lines as a residence. The 28-feet-by-40-feet combination barn garage which Mr. Fletcher planned to build on his two acre lot in Amissville would have been just 17 feet from the boundary line for the adjoining property.
And in order to get the variance, he had to show that denial of his request would present an undue hardship by denying or severely limiting use of the land.
