Virginia State Parks are the subject, and Bob’s Cameras, TV and Video Supply in Richmond is the sponsor, of the “Add A Shot of Color” photography contest beginning Memorial Day weekend and running through Nov. 15. Prizes include a week’s stay in the state park’s most popular cabin and a 35mm Minolta Camera provided by Bob’s Cameras.
The “Add A Shot of Color” contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages. Photographs taken in any of the Virginia State Park system areas currently open to the public are eligible. Photographs will be judged on technical merit and their depiction of the contest’s “color” theme. The colors of nature, colorful activities and colorful facilities found in the state parks, and people’s enjoyment of these, are preferred photographic subjects.
“The colors of nature take on many forms,” said Ronald D. Sutton, Commissioner of the Division of Parks and Recreation. “State parks and their activities are designed to get people out to enjoy their natural surroundings, where they become part of nature’s color.”
The first prize winner will receive a 35mm Minolta plus one week in the system’s most requested cabin, the lake-front, tvto-bedroom log cabin at Fairy Stone State Park; and a lifetime pass waiving parking fees in all state parks. Second prize is ten days of free state park camping, a 5-year park pass and a $50 gift certificate from Bob’s Cameras. Third prize is five days of free camping, a 2-year park pass and a $25 gift certificate. Five honorable mention winners will receive a one-year pass and a $10 gift certificate.
