A wonderful program
Children in Rappahannock County have a tremendous opportunity again this summer: the Summer Reading Program sponsored by the county library.
The adventure begins on June 22 and continues each Wednesday morning until August. Along the way the kids will have a chance to explore the library’s collection of children’s books and befriend the fascinating creatures and characters found in the pages of those volumes.
And, as in years past, some visitors will likely make an appearance — last summer a storyteller wove fascinating tales of long-ago and never-were to an audience of kids both young and old. There are crafts to make and painting to be done.
Last year, more than 100 children attended the various programs offered during the summer, and the library hopes for at least that much participation this summer. Much of the work in putting the programs together is done by the library’s corps of volunteers, and to them goes much of the credit for making them so appealing.
The final proof of the Summer Reading Program’s success could be read on the faces of the children last year.
But there’s another benefit of the program, which extends far beyond the fun and knowledge the children gain each week. They are learning to love reading — and learning — and that’s a benefit which will accompany each child fora lifetime.
There’s ho charge for children to attend the library program, which surely makes it even more attractive for parents looking for" low-cost activities for the family while school is out.
