The first place winner, with 150 points, was the Stuarts Draft Middle School. Wakefield and the C.M Bradley Elementary School of Warrenton trailed slightly behind the first place winner with 148 points each.
Wakefield sixth grader Diana Fry scored third in the region in the individual rankings, just behind Allan Massie of Stuarts Draft MS and Chris Byer of Charlottesville’s Jack Jouett MS. Diana is a mathematics student of Barbara Todd. According to Miss Todd, the secret of her highscoring students’ success in the competition is high interest and consistency of effort.
Their goal for next year, she says, is to move up to first place in the state, a position now held by the Haycock Elementary Schools of Falls Church.
