-3| Wakefield School's ninth commencement will be held at 6 p.m. Suriday in the school's garden. Degrees will be awarded by the school's headmaster, Dr. William Lynn Jr., and a reception for family and friends will follow.
Spenyville carnival time!
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department's annual carnival continues through Saturday. The fireman's parade will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the Carnival Queen will be crowned, and a number of prizes will be given away.
Celebrating the Fourth
The Town of Washington will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration again this year. Although a volunteer committee of town residents has tken over the evening program from William Carrigan, Mr. and Mrs. Carrigan once again invite the public to enjoy a patriotic program on the grounds of Avon Hall, beginning around dinnertime. The day's activities will once again be sponsored by and benefit the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
Woodards to speak on herbs
Cheri and Martin Woodard, the owners of Faith Mountain Co. in Sperryville, will attend the International Herb Growers and Marketers Assn, conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this weekend. The Local Emergency Planning Committee for Rapphannock County will hold a meeting on Monday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at the Courthouse. The committee is formulating plans to react to a hazardous materials incident in the county. The committee is chaired by Col. Dieter Knuepfer, the local emergency services coordinator.
