just ended, it is not too early to plan for next spring’s planting. The Department of Forestry is now accepting applications for the RT costshare program. Reforestation costs generally range between $50 and $65 per acre after cost-share help.

In addition to the RT program, there are other federal and state cost-share programs that may also be available. Sometimes these additional programs can be supplemental to the RT program and can further reduce planting costs. There is also a 10 percent reforestation tax credit available to qualifying landowners.

Anyone interested in planting an old field or cutover area should call Buck Kline, Area Forester, at 9485341, or Tippy Jenkins, at 987-8837. Upon request a free planting site examination will be made. You may also write to Department of Forestry, P.O. Box 148, Madison, VA 22727.

Mr. Kline is the Area Forester for Rappahannock County. Residents with forestry-related questions or concerns may address them to him or Forest Warden Jenkins (see addresses, numbers above).
