The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy’s Division of Energy has announced that service stations in Culpeper and Front Royal are among 540 private businesses statewide, mostly retail service stations, which are collecting used oil from people who change their own oil.
Once collected, the department’s spokesman said, the oil is recycled as an industrial fuel supplement or re-refined into lube stock.
“Motorists can keep their used oil from causing environmental problems by taking it to a service station displaying the blue and white ‘Return Used Oil Here’ sign,’’ the spokesman said. Although no businesses in Rappahannock County are presently participating in the program,
