Rappahannock County has a problem which was accentuated during the week of heavy rain that occured in May: Water run-off and erosion from newly cleared land.
In past times when there was only spot building and clearing of a piece of land, the water run-off and erosion weren’t much of a problem. BUT, now that there is a building boom, especially in Chester Gap, the water run-off problem has multiplied.
A builder who bulldozes an acre or two of mountainside can really cause a problem for the people who live below him. They don’t want his topsoil but they are going to get it and a lot more water than they were previously used to.
