Sperryville carnival underway
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual carnival this week at the fire hall on Rt. 211 west. Wednesday is family nights, with all the rides all night for one $5 ticket. On Friday, the firemen’s parade will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday night, the carnival queen will be crowned, drawings will be held and the grand prize winner announced.
Business Council to meet
The Washington Business Council will meet on Wednesday, June 22, at 6:15 at the Village Cafe. This is an important proofreading meet- • ing and all members are urged to attend.
‘The Shock of the New’ series
The third film in “The Shock of the New” series about the nature and purpose of art in the 20th century will be shown Monday, June 20, at 8 p.m. in Washington’s Gay Street Theater. In a film entitled “The Landscape of Pleasure,” Robert Hughes looks at Seurat, Monet, Cezanne, Gaugin, Bonnard, Picasso and Matisse. Professor Jim Thomasson of Georgetown University will lead an informal discussion after the film. The eight-part Monday night series is being sponsored by Middle Street Gallery through the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Admission is free.
The dream workshop
Dr. Denise H. Horton will conduct an introductory workshop or. understanding your dreams at Lord Fairfax Community College on Saturday, June 25, from 1-5 p.m. Psychic dreaming, recurring dreams, how to interpret common dream symbols and learning how to “program” your dreams to answer important life questions, will be covered. Ole Hollow reunion planned
Families, friends and community members are invited to attend the annual Ole Hollow reunion Sunday, June 26, at noon at Thornton’s Gap Regular Baptist Church near Sperryville. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a beverage. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
Flint Hill carnival scheduled
The Flint Hill firemen’s carnival will be held Aug. 3-6. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. is invited to call Moe Walker at 675-3441, evenings.
