Chester Gap carnival nears

The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual firemen's carnival from July 27-30. Wednesday will be Family Night, with all rides for $4. Thursday and Friday you can ride all night for $5, and also on Friday "Jerry Williams and Mistic Sounds" will play two shows at the carnival grounds. On Saturday a 12:30 p.m. the department will hold its Third Annual Horseshoe Tournament. On : Saturday evening the Carnival Queen will • be announced.

BhMmont Conceits continue v r * The Bluemont Concert Series 5 continues, with blues musicians John Jackson and Paul Geremia scheduled to appear on the lawn of the Warren Green Hotel in Warrenton on Saturday, July 9. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, July 10, John McCutcheon will play on the steps of the Culpeper County ’***■" Courthouse, beginning at 7 p.m. Both concerts are open to the public.

Rt 211 project hearings

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on the proposal to four-lane Rt. 211 from Washington to Sperryville. It will be held at the Rappahannock County Elementary School on Thursday, July 21 at 7 p.m. An informational meeting will also be held at ■ the elementary school on Wednesday, July 20, from 4-8 p.m. Highway department officials will be on hand to answer questions and project design plans and other documents will be available for Inspection. *
