Art class at Middle Street
Laurie Marshall will be teaching a drawing class for children ages five and older at Middle Street Gallery in Washington. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday during the week of July 18. The cost of the class is $25 and financial aid is available. The students will learn the Monart method of drawing as well as how to create images unique to themselves. Call 675-3267 to register.
‘Shock of the New’ continues
The seventh film in the “Shock of the New” series about the nature and purpose of art in the twentieth century will be shown Monday, July 18 at 8 p.m. at Washington’s Gay St. Theater. Entitled “Culture as Nature” the film looks at Pop art including Ruschenberg, Johns, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rosenquist and Oldenburg. There will be an informal discussion after the movie. The series is sponsored by Middle Street Gallery through the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Admission is free
Emergency medicine courses
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Emergency Medical Services Council announced that it will sponsor two courses in emergency medicine during the summer. A First Responder course will begin on July 25. The class will meet from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through the last week of August. There will be a charge for the class text. A Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation class will be held on July 26, 27 and 28 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants who complete this class will earn Red Cross certification in CPR. Cost is $7.50 per person. Both classes will be held in the Culpeper County Rescue Squad building on Rt. 29 north of Culpeper. For information about either class call the EMS office (825-6849).
CulpeperFest ’88
Once again, the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce is proud to sponsor CulpeperFest ’88. The festival once again will be held at the Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises. This natural setting will host a variety of food, entertainment and exhibits reflecting local culture and lore. In addition, local businesses, industries, civic groups and volunteer organizations will display their “Culpeper Pride” by showing off their growing town nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. The Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises is located 2 miles south on U.S. 29, and will be held on Thursday, July 28, 5 to 8 p.m. Advance tickets only.
