The proposed Wester Bypass of Washington. D.C. currently under study by the Interagency Task Force is not a bypass at all, “but rather a major urban development corridor that would bring unnecessary and undesirable growth pressures to the northern Piedmont,” according to the board of directors of the Warrenton-based Piedmont Environmental Council.
In a formal policy statement adopted last month, PEC maintained that if a bypass is needed at all, it should go east of the city “generally along the U. S. Rt. 301 corridor, already being upgraded in the State of Maryland.”
