IS THE AMPERAGE AMPLE?
The electrical control center for a home is the fuse box. When there's too much current going through a circuit, a small strip of metal within the fuse will melt and halt the flow of electricity. This is known as ‘‘blowing a fuse.” A circuit breaker does the work of a fuse but looks and operates much like a light switch. When a circuit is overloaded, the switch will simply flip to Off. Current can be restored by switching the breaker back to the On position.
The main thing to look for in a fuse or circuit breaker box is the amperage rating for the whole house. This will tell you the amount of electricity your circuits can carry effectively. This rating is usually printed on a small plate atached to the box. A home of average size will require a minimum of 100-ampere serrvice. Anything over that would be to your advantage.
To see how many circuits there are in a house, merely count the number of fuses or breakers. The average single house will have from 15 to 20. Make sure they are all labeled.
