Last Saturday, the Red Sox overcame a seven-run deficit to bump the Amissville Astros from first place in the Bambino League.
Cory Carroll started the game for the Astros and stayed in control until the fourth inning, when the Red Sox erupted for four runs on good base-running and hits by P^ul Brown and Willie Shanks.
In the fifth, the Red Sox added another five runs on two walks, tow hits and a home run by Willie Shanks.
The Red Sox continued their offensive barrage in the sixth inning, adding an additional two insurance runs after Jason Waters drew a walk and was brought home by Paul Brown’s home run, his fourth hit of the day.
The Astros scored twice in the first, four runs in the second and once more in the third to build a 7-0 lead until the Red Sox spoiled their day in the later innings.
With that victory the Red Sox are in sole possession of first place with a 3-1 record. The surging Yankees are following closely behind at 4-2.
Before the game, Astros Coach Ronald Dodson and Red Sox Coach Julian Brown pondered playing a double-header to make up for previously rained-out games. But after the game both coaches said they were drained from the excitement of the first game. “I don’t think that I could take another one like this right now,” Coach Brown quipped.
The Bambino League action has been exciting this year, Coach Don Dorrell added, and the kids love to have their parents and neighbors attend the games and show their support for the youngsters and for Little League Baseball. “Everyone is urged to come out to the ballgames and cheer on their favorite
